Exactly 24 hours ago I tuned in to a live webcast of the “world’s shortest marketing conference ever” – Thoughtlead’s The Influencer Project, in which 60 speakers were given 60 seconds each to distill their expertise on how to increase your digital influence in the next 60 days.
Described by one of the attendees (Twitter @CoachJennie) as “like drinking from a FIRE HOSE,” in response I tweeted back that to me it seemed like listening in to a speed dating session! So fast was the whir of the mic being passed to the next gal/guy (figuratively, not in real time I don’t think), like at one of those party games where a “hot” object gets rapidly flicked to the person sitting next to you.
You can check the full list of speakers at the URL above – try recognizing them by photo or name or, if (like me) you’ve never heard of most of them before, simply enjoy the pithy distinctions they make. You never know, something might pique your interest enough to look them up online. It’s done that for me.
Sure, among the 60 presenters were some of Social Media’s A-list blogger usual suspects such as Gary Vaynerchuk, Robert Scoble and Guy Kawasaki. Guy’s controversial marketing hint was to retweet your own stuff often – like he does, 4 times every 8 hours! He even quickly responded positively to my tweets on the subject. During (and after) the live presentation, scores of attendees tweeted using the hashtag #influencer. You can do a search within Twitter to check that tweetstream.
And it was good to hear from the 18 women presenters too. In my view, this does a lot to redress the gender imbalance often seen online in the Internet Marketing space.
To whet your appetite, here, chosen at random, is an excerpt from speaker Todd Defren who blogs at pr-squared.com:
“If you’ve got 60 days to change YOUR world you need to start by trying to change THE world. What is it about your industry or about the world in general that you feel passionate enough about to shake things up? If you’re willing to shake up your world, the world is willing to pay attention.” He went on to emphasize the importance of having our own blog, a permanent place to aggregate all our content and where visitors can easily respond to it.
I recommend you check out the webcast for yourself by grabbing the FREE MP3 replay from here. All you need is an hour of your time, and an open mind. There’s nothing to buy, because nobody is pitching their products or services at you. There’s no need to even opt-in if you don’t want to. That’s a welcome relief in these days of fierce online competition to grab the email addresses and ultimately the credit card numbers of anyone that breathes!
The Influencer Project site is transcribing the whole webcast and will make it available in the near future. That doc will be a great resource of top content that should remain current for some time.
Meantime I’ll be diving back into the webcast replay for the 3rd time. Seriously, there are a LOT of things I need to change about the way I’m doing stuff on the Internet. These 60 speakers sure have the knack in driving home how to better influence those we wish to interact with online.
